STEP 1: Take your picture.
You need a digital camera as an interface
between you and your computer. Digital cameras can display images on a screen immediately after they are recorded, store thousands of images on a single small memory device, record
video with sound, crop pictures and perform other elementary image editing.
Most importantly, digital cameras are everywhere — they have been incorporated into many devices
ranging from PDAs and cell phones to vehicles. Well-known camera trade marks include: Canon, Nikon, Olympus, and Sony.
After the picture is taken, download it from the camera to your
computer, or to your personal website if you have one.

STEP 2: Choose a software application.
There are many websites providing on-line tools for image processing
characterized by cartoonizing.
For example, Befunky.com, MyWebSearch.com, Zwinky.com, Meez, Weeworld.
Besides cartoonizer, these websites often
provide other photo effects tools: Pop Art, Charcola,
Inkify, SunBurst, BW,
MotionColor, to name but a few. These effects
are so versatile that your avatar can be fleshed out in any way
you can imagine. We provide in this page links to some of the
websites, as well as some relevant information.

STEP 3: Upload your picture.
These websites usually provide rich portals for uploading your
pictures. You can first download your picture from your Canon
PowerShot to your computer, and then upload to the cartoonizer
website. Even if you do not have a picture, you can transmit
your image through webcam, which has been built in recent
laptops. After the picture is upload, do some rudimental editing
and cropping through the in-built tools of these websites. This
step is not essential and you can ignore it.

STEP 4: Cartoonize.
Now you are ready for the magic. With a click the website begins
to cartoonize your picture (or use other tools as listed in Step
2). You can set parameters to make the resultant cartoons meet
your requirement as much as possible. The website usually
provides samples for different parameters, so this can be done
very intuitively. Besides the major conversion tools, the
website often provides additional Goodies which allows you to
further improve your avatar. For example, you can add speech bubbles, arrows,
and other fun stuff.

STEP 5: Save your avatar.
Congratulations that you have created your avatar! Download
it to your computer or share it with your friends by sending
emails. |
